WISE CEMENTING AND STIMULATION TECHNICAL SUPPORT

WISE Well Intervention Services now offers cementing and stimulation technical support at our state-of-the-art, full-service laboratory in Lafayette, where WISE specialists work with customers’ engineers to design and test cement slurry formulations based on the key parameters of each well. Using the latest, most sophisticated test equipment available, our WISE laboratory performs a full range of tests on cement slurries: thickening time, compressive strength, fluid loss, free fluid, and rheologies. In addition to slurry design, our technical support staff evaluates the compatibility of spacer fluids and the drilling fluids in the well to prevent placement problems caused by unanticipated increases in fluid viscosity.

To ensure successful cement placement, our technical support staff uses computer simulation software to model fluid flow in the well to determine the optimum pump rates, slurry volumes, and pressures. Because oil well cementing is a round-the-clock business, and time is money in the drilling business, the WISE laboratory provides fast-response technical support 24/7.

Our laboratory staff also supports our well stimulation services by conducting tests on formation samples, produced fluids, scale samples, and organic deposit samples. Using the test results we design chemical blends for well treatment. Blends can include acids, surfactants, demulsifiers, or a range of solvents. Tests include X-ray diffraction, hydrocarbon content, sieve analysis, water/fluid analysis, solids analysis, and acid solubility.

Twin-cell ultrasonic cement analyzers measure the compressive strength development of cement slurries under downhole temperature and pressure conditions. Over the 24-hour duration of the nondestructive test, the instrument transmits ultrasonic signals through the sample as it hardens. Proprietary algorithms convert changes in the speed of the ultrasonic signals into cement compressive strength.

This stirred fluid loss cell measures fluid loss properties of mud and cement blends at temperatures up to 400° F. This automated instrument eliminates the need to precondition the slurry sample and transfer it to a fluid-loss filter press, resulting in faster, more accurate testing.

Computer-controlled, pressurized consistometers have revolutionized cement-thickening-time tests. The instruments simulate downhole conditions up to 22,000 psi (150 MPa) and 400° F (205° C). These units incorporate the latest features and capabilities to maximize accuracy and shorten test time.

The Chandler Model 5550 HTHP high-temperature/high-pressure viscometer has improved accuracy of viscosity measurements while dramatically reducing testing time and operator intervention. Viscosity of completion fluids can be measured at temperatures up to 500° F (260° C).
